Subline Frequency Setting for Autonomous Minibusses under Demand Uncertainty

Over the last years, there have been initiated several pilots with autonomous minibusses. Unlike regular bus services, minibusses serve a limited number of stops and more flexible schedules since they do not require drivers. This allows operation line through combination sublines, where subline serves subset consecutive in same order as original line. paper studies frequency setting (SFS) problem under uncertain passenger demand. We present model that assigns to sublines exploit available resources much possible minimize operational waiting time costs. Passenger costs may depend on lines whose frequencies cannot be perfectly aligned for each journey. new estimation expected passengers improve accuracy case sublines. Our SFS is originally formulated MINLP reformulated MILP can solved global optimality. Further, we explicitly consider uncertainty demand optimization process by formulating stochastic model. The performances our deterministic models assign are tested various scenarios 14-stop minibus Eberbach, Germany fictional 20 stops. Results show potential improvements range 10-40% depending profile.
